drawings probablyfinally decided Shields against doing any more drawingson wood, and made him return to his water-colours again.In January 1864 he is working at Bo-Peep and the Girl with Pickel, from a sketch at Porlock. January 25th.—Finished Boo. To town. Soldit to Mr. Rawdon, £20. Looked for model, called atAgnews, and Mitchells. He showed me all Bradleysdrawings—what a reproof to my indolence and fastidious-ness. To Free Library, to collect costume, to Croziersabout dresses and armour. January 29th.—Got room cleaned. To look for oldvelvet frock at Knott Mill. Sold my Plague sketches toMr. Barrett, £5. This entry is especially interesting. The final draw-ings, as already mentioned, were ruined by the engraver.At the Memorial Exhibition in London in the autumn of 1911, all that could be shown was a set of photographstaken from the drawings on wood before cutting, kindlylent by Mrs. Fowler.
