oduced my finger into the rec-tum, and, by making deep pressure and flexing the patientsthighs, discovered the head of the pin beneath my finger, bypressing that member forcibly upward and forward. Wxih myfinger in this position I found that I could move the pin. and atonce forced it a short ways down the urethra and succeeded inembedding its sharp point in the wall of the anterior urethra. Inow seized the patients penis in my left hand, drew it upward,and made forcible pressure upon the head of the pin as before,forcing it downward along the urethra. I had the great satisfac-tion of seeing the point perforate the tissues and emerge from theskin. Seizing the point of the pin with my left hand I drew thepin outward until only the head remained in the urethra (as shownin Fig. 2). I then lowered the point of the pin and pressed upwarduntil the head of the pin, now reversed in direction, escaped fromthe meatus urinarius (which last maneuver is illustrated byi^ig 3)- ORIGINAL:—BARNES 525
