On seeing a little Fox-terrierpuppy that had fallen into a tanpit in-effectually struggling to get out, Abbesspushed her way through a group of dogs,and, carefully taking the puppy in hermouth, placed it in safety and then re-turned to the other dogs ! On anotheroccasion the stable in which was Augustawith two puppies became flooded froman overflow of the river in the night. On 68 THE NEW BOOK OF THE DOG. the following morning the puppies, abouta month old, were found safe in the man-ger, with Augusta standing up to hermiddle in water.
