afact that none of the contestants were allowed to put their carsinto service prior to the test, and we all labored under this greatdisadvantage. I was told that I would be allowed two days serv-ice before the test was to take place, but, when the time came forthe service test, the engineer was imable to get the permit to allowour car to go on the road, and we practically had never had annpportunity to run the car except in the limited space in the barn.This was particularly hard on our company. Wc did the bestwe could under the circumstances, knowing that we could havemade a much better showing if we had been able to have used ourcar for a couple of days prior to the test. In our opinion, the testamounts to very little, we believing that the best way for a streetcar company to test the merits of a brake is to take it and use it,giving it regular daily service, and in this way only can the valueof any braking device be accurately determined.
