Summary
editDescriptionThe tower at Belsay Castle - geograph.org.uk - 1384719.jpg |
English: The tower at Belsay Castle Originally built as a medieval fortified tower house and for centuries the home of the Middleton family, Belsay Castle was expanded in the early seventeenth century with the addition of a fine Jacobean house - see [1].
The house was subsequently expanded further but the family abandoned it around 1817 when Sir Charles Monck moved the family into a new home, the neo-classical Belsay Hall [2] , a few hundred metres to the east. |
