English: The view south from Acres Down, New Forest. A steep climb up from the woodland below, Acres Down is an area of heathland that reaches nearly 90m above sea level. In the foreground is a well used track which has exposed the underlying gravel (which has been bleached white by the acidic heathland environment). In the far distance is the chalk ridge of the Isle of Wight, although unfortunately this has been lost in the glare in this photo. |
