Summary edit
DescriptionThe weir at Gunnislake - geograph.org.uk - 675002.jpg |
English: The weir at Gunnislake View northwards from the river to the steep slopes of Hatch Wood with Chimney Rock above the weir. This marks the end of the tidal range and is the limit of navigation of the Tamar. There were plans to extend the navigation to Launceston to meet the Bude Canal, but this never came about. The Tamar Manure Navigation Canal did bypass to the left of this weir to take dock-dung from Plymouth to the farms further upstream and coal to the Gunnislake gas works.
