| Description |
English: The west doorway, Lanercost Priory Church, Burtholme This is one of the priory churches that were partly saved by being used by the local population as their parish church. As usual it is the nave that has survived. The choir and chancel were the monk's domain, and are ruined. The church is dedicated to St Mary Magdalene, and her statue, made in c.1250-75 according to Nikolaus Pevsner, is high up in the west gable over three very tall windows and this grand arcading and archway with four orders of columns. |
