DescriptionThird Anniversary of the February 2011 Earthquake.jpg |
English: It was the 3rd Anniversary of the February 2011 Earthquake that killed 185 people. It was really hot day and I went with a friend and we put some flowers in the river and came to the CTV site when 115 died and left some flowers there. Then we walked across the street to the 185 white Chairs Installation where we observed the minute's silence for the 185 people that died that day. When our lives changed forever here in Christchurch.
February 22, 2014 Christchurch New Zealand. The white Chairs is a art installation by Peter Majendie each chair represents one of the 185 lives lost in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. Each chair, just like its owner, has its own distinct personality, with the installation including armchairs, dining room chairs, a wheel chair, and even a baby capsule. The 185 square metres of grass that the chairs sit on represents new growth and regeneration – something which you can see and feel across the whole city. The artist’s statement poetically reminds us all that the ‘installation is temporary – as is life’. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CTV_Building tvnz.co.nz/national-news/christchurch-stops-mark-quake-an... www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/christchurch-earthquake-20... |
