| Description |
English: (1 in a multiple picture set) A few miles south of I-70 just east of Green River, UT, we found this ghost town. I call it Thompson Springs which was it's original name, though today it is on the map as just Thompson. The man Thompson discovered a spring nearby along with coal deposits, and layed out the original town. When the railroads went to diesel instead of coal, the mines closed and the town began to rely on travelers stopping while driving actoss the state. Then the interstate by-passed the town by 2 miles, and that was the end of it. The butte in the background is the beginning of Sego Canyon where some amazing petroglyphs are to be found (see other set of pictures). |
