English: The theater is the main theater in Timgad where no amphitheater has been found, but there was a temporary wooden one. Located south of the forum, on the side of a hill, the theater, with a cavea 63 meters in diameter, could accommodate about 3,500 peopleo 87. The base of a statue of Mercury, raised for the salvation of the emperors Septimius Severus and Caracalla celebrated there the scenic games given by Lucius Germeus Silvanus, for the honor of its functions of augury: in Timgad as elsewhere the municipal life was not separable from the festivals and spectacles, with more or less splendors according to the évergétisme of the notables. Several cracks within the ancient theater are visible. A new theater was built to house the Timgada International Music Festival, between the Saturn Temple and the Great Baths of the North and outside the border of the antiqua site.
