Title
Saint Catherine of Alexandria
Description
English: St. Catherine appears here with the palm, symbol of martyrdom, the spiked wheel on which she was tortured, and a book, which alludes to her role as a patron of education. In the flickering candlelight of the church, the billowing folds of her garment would have given her a lifelike presence. Tino di Camaino, whose works this sculpture resembles, worked on important commissions in many major Italian cities and directed a large workshop of sculptors.
