DescriptionTo Masterbuilder Appelmans - Aan Bouwmeester Appelmans (5863143738).jpg |
17 June 2011. We walked to Antwerp's cathedral and tallest building, the Cathedral of Our Lady. (Onze-Lieve Vrouwekathedraal). I was intrigued by this sculpture of a group of figures near the Western door. It's apparently a monument to the cathedral's first architects - father and son Jan and Pieter Appelmans. But I took it as a celebration of the stonemasons and everyone who worked on the building. Sculpture by Jef Lambeaux (b.Antwerp 14 January 1852 - d. Brussels 5 June 1908).

Like us, Carlos was able to see the sculpture without some numpty pretending to be a fifth statue. § Cathedral website.
