English: The top panel shows a top view of the crista acustica response shown in Fig. 3. The line in the centre lies on the scolopidial axis. The bottom panel shows an animation the velocity profile for one sine wave cycle (12 kHz, 80 dB SPL) taken along the line indicated in the top panel. Notice that as the traveling wave progress along the organ, tiny peaks begin to emerge at the organ location excited by the traveling wave at any given instant. Further, the asymmetry related to the peak of the traveling wave can be seen i.e. the wave builds up slowly until the CF location (∼200 µm) and falls off rapidly beyond the CF location. |
