"Travassos do Rio, Montalegre, 29 de Agosto de 1991 - Notabiliza este lugar um baixo-relevo na torre sineira a figurar a cabeça dum toiro, que foi campeão invencível nas turras do seu tempo e os habitantes, ufanos de tanta valentia, quiseram perpetuar.

Vou remomerando: Cornos das Alturas, Cornos da Fonte Fria, Tourém, Toural, Pitões.

Era assim antanho. Por todo o lado a mesma obsessão a tutelar as consiências. O mal é que o povo, em meia dúzia de anos, deixou apagar nos olhos a imagem viril, e perdeu a identidade. O Barroso de hoje é uma caricatura. Sem força testicular, fala francês, bebe coca-cola, deixou de comer o pão de centeio do forno comunitário, assiste a chegas comerciais, em campos de futebol, com bilhetes pagos e animais alugados. É um nédio boi capado."
