Summary edit

Description
English: A roadside "trail tree" form found in Tar Hollow State Forest, Ohio. This is blazed tree (see blue spot obscured by vines, right side, eye-level). The blaze is a trail marker for the Buckeye Trail, a modern hiking trail traversing the area. Ironically, this damage pattern does point along the recent trail, a forest road. The horizontal element is 18" diameter at the narrowest point near the new vertical leader. The closed ring-scar terminating the horizontal element is 11" in diameter. The wind damage giving origin to the structure probably occurred less than thirty years before present. The terrain position of this tree is typical for commonly found trail tree forms, it falls at the break in slope along a ridge top exposed to unabated winds.
