Définition. — Lachondroplasie est une maladie du cartilage pri-mordial aboutissant au ramollissement et à lincurvation des os quiprocèdent dun cartilage. Cette lésion survient du troisième au sixièmemois de la vie fœtale. Elle doit être bien distinguée du rachitismeintra-utérin. Sous ce dernier nom, en effet, on a confondu souventbien des maladies du squelette fœtal. Historique. — Millier, en 1860, décrivit lachondroplasie sous lenom de rachitisme spécial; Virchow rapporta un cas analogue.Vinkel décrivit, en 1871, un cas de rachitisme intra-utérin avecmicromélie; puis ultérieurement Ebcrlh(l), Neumann, Wyss, Smith,Kassovifz, etc., décrivent lachondroplasie sous le nom de rachitisme (1) Eiîiîhth, Rachitisme fœtal et crétinisme (Correspondenzblult fur scliweiz.Aerzte, 1879). 676 PL.
