| Description |
Hong Kong trams are to be boarded from the rear doors, where turnstiles prevent exiting. Disembarking is from the front doors, and fare is collected there. It is notable that in the Chinese portion, $1 and $2 fares are written in tamper-proof legalese characters. Senior citizen fare applies only to residents with proper Hong Kong ID. $2, or 25 cents in US dollars, is a bargain, much cheaper than the MTR subway. While the tram is a tourist trap like the San Francisco cable car, the cost of one San Francisco cable car ride pays for twenty Hong Kong tram rides. However, Octopus debit card is not accepted, and exact change in coins is required. |
