Description
Français : Ligne Niort-Thouars via Parthenay en tranchée, pk 413, sortie nord chef-lieu Deux-Sèvres.

Exclusivement dédié au fret depuis l'arrêt des circulations voyageurs en 1980, cet axe longtemps menacé, segment de l'itinéraire alternatif de Chartres à Bordeaux St-Jean, renait de ses cendres depuis la fin de décennie 2010.

La section Niort-Parthenay, que l'on voit à l'image, est en effet régénérée en 2019. Le parcours vers St-Varent, fermé en 2015 et où se trouve une importante carrière de granulats, doit suivre à l'horizon 2023-24. Client expédiant actuellement plus de 5 trains par jour, avec de réelles perspectives d'évolution.

Le trajet via Tours-St Pierre des Corps (37), en plus d'un détour inutile pour se rendre vers le sud, engendre un important surcoût...
