ly. (i) .Vn upper series. Probably equivalent to MiddleHuronian of Lake Superior district. Chiefly felds-pathic quartzite with some conglomerate. Theseries is called by Barlow the Lorrain series. Slight unconformity: (ii). A lower series. Probably equivalent to LowerHuronian of Lake Superior district. Chiefly grey-wacke, shale, conglomerate, and feldspathic quartz-ite. The conglomerate pebbles are mostly ofholocrystalline rocks, the matrix grey~wacke andgrey shale. The rocks are seldom schistose, exceptas the result of contact metamorphism. This seriesis called by Miller and Knight the Cobalt series.Great unconformity:IV.—Arcilean. (a) Laurentian. Igneous intrusives only. Holocrystal-hne light colored siliceous rocks. Chiefly granites,diorites, syenites and gneisses. Igneous contact: (b) Koowatin. Igneous and sedimentary rocks. Allmuch metamorphosed and many schistose. Therelative age of the igneous and sedimentary rocksis doubtful. The igneous rocks are chiefly of ex-trusive types.
