is probable that itwill be recovered here at some deeper point, approach being made fromthe granite, Sixthly: that extreme caution must be exercised in undertakingthe opening up of a vein in shattered ground of this kind. Theories ofparallel ore bodies and numerous veins may be rudely dispelled byevents, and the plan of work must be held continually subject to mod-ification. Only the most shadowy estimates can at any time be madeof ore in sight, and the plan of operations can only be outlined in avague way. To open up a mine of this description is an entirely differ-ent proposition to that of opening up a regular ore body. It wouldappear, however, that the vein, where it is now being worked in thegranite, has at last reached a condition of permanency, and it is likelythat it will retain this character, as further depth is attained.
