The Iron* Ores of Ontario 113 On the accompanying map the areas of Keewatin and Lower Hu-ronian are outlined with as great accuracy as our present knowledgeof the unsettled regions of Ontario will permit. It has not provedpossible to show them separately on a small scale map even whenthe information was at hand to do so. So far little iron ore ofcommercial value has been found in the Lower Huronian areas.In Deroche township north of Sault Ste. Marie, some prospectinghas been done with fair results. In Long and Rutherford town-ships, deposits of specular hematite have been found in smallquantities. In Aberdeen township a more promising prospectoccurs. All of these deposits are associated with quartzite or slate.The banded jasper and hematite of the Marquette range is for themost part absent in the typical Lower Huronian area. In Harrowtownship the typical iron formation does, however, occur in theLower Huronian, and at two other points iron carbonate has beenfound. In the Keewatin the
