ts of the inn called the ArchdukeCharles, will not dissipate the unfavourable impression thusproduced. Prague has derived its name from the great bridgeover the river Moldau, Prag being the town of the Brig or the bridge by eminence. This structure is 1800 feet long,and 35 feet broad, the arches are 24 in number. The battle-ments are ornamented with thirty-two statues of saints, and ateach end is a high Gothic tower of handsome architecture. Thedate of the first erection of this bridge is unknown, but it appearsfrom a Latin inscription in capitals, at one end, that it was rebuiltby Charles the Fourth in 1357, and again by Joseph the Secondin 1784.
