Summary edit

Description

"Treme" co-creators and executive producers David Simon and Eric Overmyer, actor Clarke Peters (HBO's "The Wire," "The Corner," and Albert Lambeaux on "Treme"), Tulane University professors Beretta Smith-Shomade and Joel Dinerstein (event moderator) and New Orleans writer/poet Gian Smith. Hosted by Tulane professors Shayne Lee and Nghana Lewis. HBO, Tulane's African and African Diaspora Studies, Tulane Provost's Office and the New Orleans-Gulf South Research Center present a symposium with special guests from HBO's critically-acclaimed, original series, "Treme," and Tulane professors and community leaders. The event is free and open to the public with a reception to follow. Created by David Simon ("The Wire," "Generation Kill," "The Corner") and Eric Overmyer ("Homicide," "The Wire"), "Treme" follows musicians, chefs, Mardi Gras Indians and ordinary New Orleanians as they try to rebuild their lives, their homes and their unique culture in the aftermath of the 2005 hurricane and levee failure that caused the near-death of an American city. "Treme" is being used by some Tulane professors to enhance their curricula and provide students with a contemporary supplement that is a springboard for class discussion.
