Summary edit

Description Trilobites grew by shedding their old, rigid exoskeleton in a process called molting. They underwent this process several times during their development. Many trilobite fossils are actually the preserved remains of the molted exoskeleton - the trilobite crawled from the molted shell and scurried away, leaving it behind to be preserved for us to see today. The fossils here are all of trilobite molts, provided by David Thompson and Stan Hyne.
