Interior details of the bar in the Columbian Hotel (built 1879), Trinidad, Colorado, include carved and lathe turned wood covering the front of the bar and cornices over the mirror in back. The coffered ceiling has hammered tin insets with painted scenes in central cartouches. Bas- relief friezes of country scenes surround the upper walls and are reflected in the mirrors. The central shelf-column houses a cash register and taxidermied pheasants, and its domed, imbricated top has a carved bird in flight. A hanging gas lamp in the top of the image has faux candle uprights and milk-glass pendants. A spittoon is on the floor under the brass footrest. Two men are behind the bar; another leans in front. A mezzanine with a spindleworked balustrade has glass shaded electric lamps mounted on it. A gilt framed oil painting is on the wall; an oriental rug is on the floor in the foreground, and towels hang from the bar.
