Description
English: Old twine binder (reaper-binder) on display at The Henry Ford museum, Michigan, USA. A horse-drawn machine, made about 1880 by Walter A. Wood Mowing & Reaping Machine Co. Hoosick Falls, NY. – The twine binder cut and bound the grain in the field, reducing the need for laborers after the reaping. The automatic binder presented the ultimate improvement on the mechanical reaper. This machine cutt the grain, then conveyed it to a binding mechanism. Here the grain was packed into a sheaf, or bundle, tied with a piece of twine, and deposited on the ground for workers to stand it upright for drying.
