Summary edit

Description
Italiano: Due lampadine al neon ad emissione di raggi ultravioletti, Rispettivamente UV-A e UV-C
English: Two fluorescent lamps which emit ultraviolet light.

(Top) A "black light" tube which emits long wave UV-A light, and very little visible light. The inside of the tube has a fluorescent coating (europium-doped strontium borate) which converts the short wave UV from the mercury vapor inside to UV-A light at 350 - 370 nm. The tube has a dark blue optical filter coating which filters out most visible light. Black lights are used for observing fluorescence, the dim colored glow which many substances emit when exposed to UV light.

(Bottom) A tube which emits short wave UV-C radiation, used for germicidal lamps. It contains mercury vapor which radiates UV at 253 nm. The envelope is made of quartz, which is transparent to UV-C.
