English: A schematic showing the workings of an assault rifle (Izhmash AK47), especially focusing on the blowback mechanism. The schematic was based on an image in the book: "Infantry weapons" by Chris Bishop. 3 firing phases can be distinguished: firing phase 1: bullet (or nothing) in firing chamber, no combustion); firing phase 2: bullet is fired; and firing phase 3: reloading bullet. At phase 1, the center mechanism is placed forward and the center mechanism is secured by the cocking lever (blue), at phase 2, the firing pin strikes the back of the bullet, at phase 3, the mechanism reloads meaning that it moves backwards due to the firing of the previous bullet (which forms gases pressing back the plunger and thus the center mechanism). Every ak-47 is different to single recharge or automatic the single bullet is mostly used for teaching and the automatic shoots up to 10 and 30 bullets. The single bullet AK-47 is mostly used for hunting and is not allowed in domestic homes and recreations. Note that firing at fully automatic does not allow squeezing off accurate shots, as incapacitating shots, making this firing stance unusable. Also see http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Converted_Izhmash_AK_47.JPG for a possible conversion kit for this rifle. |
