DescriptionU-Shaped Boom Deployment (51842580773).jpg |
July 27. 2019 Santa Barbara, California Two response vessels from a Spill Response Operating Team (SROT) practice maneuvering containment boom into a u-shaped configuration to trap and collect spilled oil. In using this tactic, responders can concentrate the oil inside the apex of the boom where it can be removed by a skimmer or burned in place once a thick layer has been achieved. BSEE Preparedness Analysts from the Oil Spill Preparedness Division (OSPD) regularly inspect these types of equipment and observe these tactics in industry training and exercise activities to ensure compliance with regulations and to monitor the overall vigor of the oil spill preparedness and response community.
