Description

THE 2005 NATIONAL SCIENCE BOWL SECOND PLACE WINNING TEAM, MISSION SAN JOSE HIGH SCHOOL, FREMONT, CA, HOLDING THEIR TROPHY AND $1,000.00 CHECK FOR THEIR SCHOOL.

WITH THE TEAM ON THE LEFT IS RAYMOND ORBACH, DIRECTOR, DOE OFFICE OF SCIENCE, AND THE RIGHT IS MRS. SAMUEL BODMAN, WIFE OF THE SECRETARY OF ENERGY. DOE CREATED THE NATIONAL SCIENCE BOWL IN 1991 TO ENCOURAGE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO EXCEL IN MATH AND SCIENCE AND TO PURSUE CAREERS IN THESE FIELDS. OVER 300 SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, CHAMPIONS FROM 63 REGIONAL COMPETITIONS ATTENDED THE 2005 EVENT. THIS TEAM ALSO WON A TWO WEEK TRIP TO AUSTRALIA TO ATTEND THE INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE SCHOOL.
