Description

On February 15 2013, more than 110 college students, Indonesian disaster management personnel, humanitarian NGOs, and U.N. agencies attended an event at @america on how the U.S government, organizations, and citizens respond to disasters. While the main focus of the event was the disaster response to Super Storm Sandy in the United States, speakers also discussed lessons learned from Super Storm Sandy that can benefit Indonesia, and how the U.S. government responds to disasters overseas, including the January 2013 Jakarta floods.

Speakers included the USAID/Indonesia Environment Office Director John Hansen, USAID/OFDA Senior Regional Advisor Harlan Hale, USAID/Indonesia Disaster Program Specialist Yusak Oppusunggu, the American Red Cross Indonesia Country Director, and a consultant implementing the USAID-supported Incident Command System in Indonesia who worked for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) during Super Storm Sandy.

The event was attended by nearly 10 journalists. To view other photos, visit the @america’s Flickr page.
