Summary edit

Description

Two unidentified sculptures of teachers & pupils, by Alonzo Victor Lewis, 1922. West face of Miller Hall (facing the Quad), University of Washington, Seattle, Washington, USA.

http://content.lib.washington.edu/cdm4/item_viewer.php?CISOROOT=/uwcampus&CISOPTR=1802&CISOBOX=1&REC=1 identifies the sculpture on the right as "Roman pedagogue and students"; perhaps, but the teacher's features look rather Semitic and the cap on the boy is definitely not Roman. http://www.lib.washington.edu/SpecialColl/findaids/docs/photosgraphics/MillerHallGargoylesPHColl612.xml doesn't lead to any image of the sculpture on the left. That must portray something from no earlier than early modern times, because one of the pupils is wearing glasses.

Two of many sculptures by Lewis for this building; there are also a few of his elsewhere at the University.
