English: Lt. Col. James B. Wellons, right, and Sgt. Maj. Bonnie L. Skinner uncase the colors of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 451 during its reactivation ceremony at the National Museum of Naval Aviation aboard Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla., April 1. VMFA-451 deactivated in 1997 and will now be redesignated as Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501. VMFA-501 will become the Marine Corps' first F-35B Lightning II training squadron. Wellons will assume duties as the squadron's commanding officer and Skinner will serve as sergeant major. The heart of the re-activation ceremony is the uncasing of colors by the commanding officer and sergeant major. Uncasing the colors signifies the assumption of command, authority, responsibility and accountability by the commanding officer. Distinguished guests of the historic ceremony included Gen. James F. Amos, the assistant commandant of the Marine Corps. |
