Description |
English: The U.S. Navy seaplane tenders USS Albemarle (AV-5), foreground, and USS Curtiss (AV-4), fitting out at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, Pennsylvania (USA), in late 1940. Curtiss departed Philadelphia on 2 January 1941 for shakedown, Albemarle on 28 January. Both ships had been commissioned there in November/December 1940. The destroyer USS Trippe (DD-403) and a sistership are at right. The old armoured cruiser USS Olympia (IX-40) is visible in the reserve basin at top, along with an Eagle boat. Note the battleship USS New Jersey (BB-62) under construction in the slipway at far left; two motor torpedo boats are visible just to the left of Albemarle's bow. |
