Description The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Bennington (CVS-20) off Alaska (USA), in August 1963. Bennington, with assigned Carrier Anti-Submarine Air Group 59 (CVSG-59), was the first large aircraft carrier to visit Alaska. During the Second World War, only the escort carrier USS Nassau (CVE-16) operated off Alsaka in 1943.
