English: Quartermaster Seaman Kyle Mendingall, from Montgomery, Ala., uses Telescopic alidade used to read port bearings during a transit through the Siargao Strait aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson. Carl Vinson and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing 17, are on deployment in the 7th Fleet area of operations supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
