Summary edit

Photographer
SK1 Robert Arthur Chamberlain, U.S. Navy
Description
English: Insignia of the U.S. Navy attack cargo ship USS Rankin (AKA-103), in the 1950s. The insignia was received by the Naval History Division in 1958.
Original caption: "To stimulate esprit aboard the Rankin, the commanding officer felt that the ship needed a new insignia which would better represent the mission of the ship and the spirit of her crew. It seemed highly desirable that the insignia be designed by a crew member, and a ship-board contest was held, with a prize of $25 for the winner. The officers voted on the submitted entries, and the prize was awarded to Storekeeper First Class (SK1) Robert Arthur Chamberlain, USN, who designed this insignia."
