Description
English: At sea aboard USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) Jul. 15, 2002 -- While off the coast of Lithuania during the multilateral, multinational exercise “Rescuer/Medical Exercise Central Europe (MEDCEUR) ‘02,” Commander Don Bennett, a U.S. Navy thoracic surgeon, creates an account of his little patient's history as her mother explains the child's condition. Mother and daughter are aboard for a special medical consultation performed by the Navy medical team aboard the Comfort. In addition to making this type of humanitarian assistance available, countries participating in RESCUER/MEDCUER 02 are able to enhance their medical interoperability as well as exchange medical information and techniques. Participating nations include, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Germany, Poland, Sweden, and the U.S. The Red Cross and the World Health Organization are also participating.
