DescriptionUS Navy 020806-N-1974E-001 C-2 Greyhound receives instructions from flight deck director.jpg |
English: Aboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68) May 11, 2002 -- Aviation Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class Maurice Sewell from Abbeville, Ala., directs a C-2A “Greyhound” from Fleet Logistics Support Squadron Three Zero (VRC-30) into position on the flight deck. The Greyhound is a very important aircraft in the Navy's inventory. Powered by two PT-6 turboprop engines, the C-2A can deliver a payload of up to 10,000 pounds, not only cargo but mail as well. The cabin can readily accommodate cargo, passengers or both. It is also equipped to accept litter patients in medical evacuation missions. Priority cargo such as jet engines can be transported from shore to ship in a matter of hours. Nimitz is undergoing sea trials off the coast of San Diego, Calif.
