DescriptionUS Navy 020911-N-1058W-004 Sailors aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) raise the.jpg |
English: At sea aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) Sep. 11, 2002 -- Sailors raise the “Navy Jack” at morning colors in commemoration of the events of September 11, 2001, on the first observance of “Patriot Day.” Under direction of the Secretary of the Navy, Gordon R. England, all U.S. Navy ships will fly the "Navy Jack" in place of the "Union Jack" for the duration of the war on terrorism. The "Navy Jack" is a flag consisting of a rattlesnake, superimposed across 13 horizontal alternating red and white stripes, with the motto, “Don’t Tread on Me.” Attending the sunrise flag raising aboard the Truman are (right to left) Captain Michael R. Groothousen, Commanding Officer, Captain Ted Carter, Executive Officer, Commander Alan Baker, Command Chaplain, and Command Master Chief Steve Markum.
