Description
English: At sea aboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68) Sep. 16, 2002 -- An F/A-18 “Hornet” assigned to the “War Hawks” of Strike Fighter Squadron Nine Seven (VFA-97) launches from the ship’s flight deck. This is the first time Nimitz has had an air wing embarked since 1997 following an extensive yard period and homeport move from Norfolk, Va., to San Diego, Calif. Nimitz is undergoing Tailored Ships Training Availability (TSTA) Two and Three off the California coast. U.S. Navy photo by Airman Apprentice Mark Rebilas. (RELEASED)
