Description
English: At sea aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) 29 Oct. 2002 -- An F/A-18C “Hornet” from the “Dambusters” of Strike Fighter Squadron 195 (VFA 195) assigned to Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW 5), approaches the carrier’s flight deck while USS Paul F. Foster (DD-964) steams astern the aircraft carrier. Other ships often steam in close quarters with aircraft carriers during flight operations, providing rescue and force protection operations. Kitty Hawk was the world’s only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier and operated out of Yokosuka, Japan.
