English: U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point, Hawaii (Dec. 20, 2002) -- Petty Officer 1st Class Merwin Schindler, a U.S. Coast Guard air crewman looks on as Bill Paris, a commercial cameraman captures footage of an HH-65A Helicopter, from the open ramp of a Coast Guard HC-130 “Hercules.” Mr. Paris was contracted by Dateline NBC to film a story about Mr. John Stockton, a Kayaker that was reported missing near the Hawaiian Islands. Mr. Stockton was first located by a Navy Search and Rescue team flying a P-3C "Orion" aircraft assigned to the "Golden Eagles" of Patrol Squadron Nine (VP-9), based in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. Mr Stockton was later rescued by a U.S. Coast Guard rescue helicopter team out of Pearl Harbor, July 30, 2002. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer’s Mate 1st Class Keith W. DeVinney. (RELEASED) |
