Description
English: Camp Patriot, Kuwait (April 3, 2003) -- The Honorable Richard H. Jones, U.S. Ambassador to the State of Kuwait visits the newest U.S. citizens at Camp Patriot, Kuwait - Kona and Katrina - a pair of Atlantic bottle-nose dolphins employed by the U.S. Navy for mine-detection in shallow water. Kona and Katrina are very important tools in clearing waterways leading into Iraq, so that civilian humanitarian assistance ships can provide food, water and supplies to the people of Iraq. Kona and Katrina are cared for by members of U.S. Naval Special Clearance Team One. Camp Patriot is home to nearly 3,000 U.S. Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airman and Coast Guardsmen forward deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the multi-national coalition effort to liberate the Iraqi people, eliminate Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, and end the regime of Saddam Hussein.
