English: Washington Navy Yards (Apr 23, 2003) -- The first historical artifact collected and displayed by the U.S. Navy is a French cannon captured during the Quasi-War with France (1798-1801). This cannon is on exhibit on the east side of the Navy Museum building on the Washington Navy Yard. The Navy Museum is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary and the legacy of past naval museums with a new exhibit called, “Spanning Three Centuries: Museums on the Washington Navy Yard.” U.S. Navy photo.
