(Mar. 15, 2004) - Sailors aboard the guided missile destroyer Pinckney (DDG 91) fold an American flag during a memorial service honoring three Pinckney Sailors who were killed in a bus accident on March 12. The three Sailors were killed and more than 40 were injured when the bus in which they were traveling collided with a truck on U.S. Route 17 about 20 miles North of Beaufort, S.C. Pinckney is the Navy’s newest guided missile destroyer and was making a port visit prior to heading for its homeport in San Diego, Calif. The ship will officially join the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Fleet when it is commissioned May 29, 2004 in Port Hueneme, Calif. U.S. Navy photo by Journalist 2nd Class Christal A. Bailey. (RELEASED) |
