English: Suez Canal (Mar. 16, 2004) – “Welcome to Egypt” is clearly marked to show that the Suez Canal offers safe passage to those who transit the waterway, which is used daily by a variety of ships, from commercial vessels to military warships. The amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) is currently on deployment as lead ship of Expeditionary Strike Group Two (ESG 2), and recently transited the canal on its way to the 5th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR).
