English: Naval Base San Diego, Calif. (Apr. 14, 2004) - Mineman Seaman Romeo Rocha, of Lubbock, Texas, carefully removes the protective covering of an underwater surveillance camera of a Mine Neutralization Vehicle (MNV) for cleaning and maintenance aboard the mine countermeasure ship USS Avenger (MCM 1). MNVs are used by MCM ships to locate and destroy enemy mines. Avenger-class ships use sonar and video systems, cable cutters and mine-detonating devices that can be released to detonate enemy moored and bottom mines by remote control. Avenger, homeported in Texas, recently visited San Diego during a four-month training deployment. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate 3rd Class Johansen Laurel. (RELEASED) |
