English: Al Qaim, Iraq (Nov. 8, 2004) – U.S. Marines assigned to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, prepare to launch a “Dradoneye” Small Unit Remote Scouting System, outside the village of Al Qaim, Iraq. Dragoneye is a five-pound, hand-launched, reusable vehicle with a wingspan of 45 inches. The air vehicle flies at an altitude of 300-500 feet above ground at a speed of approximately 35 miles per hour and has a mission duration of 30-60 minutes. The vehicle can be launched by two Marines and then fly a preprogrammed route using Global Positioning System (GPS) waypoints to navigate. Once in the objective area it uses on-board sensors to gather and transmit imagery back to the ground control station 1st Marine Division is engaged in Security and Stabilization Operations in the Al Anbar province in Iraq.
